Lot 3 Archaic Two-Faced dagger
A carved jade decorative blade or letter opener featuring a human like figure hilt, executed in the archaic Chinese. The object is fashioned from a mottled stone with a variegated color palette of celadon green, tan, and gray, featuring dark brown and black inclusions throughout. The handle is carved in the round as a stylized human figure with large, rectangular ears, incised almond-shaped eyes, a broad nose, and hands clasped over the abdomen. A raised, integral collar separates the handle from the flat, double-edged blade, which tapers to a pointed tip with a subtle central ridge. The details of the figure are achieved through a combination of relief carving and incised lines. Provenance: Gianguan Auctions in New York City.
